Yorash: The Sight

The Sight… sounds like some magic mumbo jumbo, right?

The Sight is the gift of visions, a rarity in the world of Yorash as a whole, but not unheard of. It can vary between seeing across time, space, or both. Often, wizards can train to gain access to it through divination magics, but sometimes, it is gifted to individuals in other ways: through their bloodline, through divine inspiration, or sometimes through sheer magical talent.

Its strength has waxed and waned over time, and it’s proven to be cyclical - when the barriers between planes are thinnest, the Sight is at its strongest, as the bonds of the Weave have less distance to travel and less interference to contend with. FOr this reason, most culture consider the deity of winter to also be the deity that controls and watches over the Sight, as it is during Starfrost that the Sight is the absolute strongest. (See Calendar for Starfrost and other holidays.)

The most powerful users of the Sight have been said to be capable of inducing visions decades into the future simply by concentrating on the right person, place, or object with the right magical elements in place. These elements vary from mage to mage, but many use reflective materials, like pools of water, crystals, or mirrors. Many young mages also finds it helps to dull the senses, so they will isolate themselves somewhere dark and quiet when they are trying to See.

There are some folk tales of the Sight coming unbidden to some lucky - or unlucky - few. Nufanji, or whatever name your culture may call her, knows that some visions must be Seen, whether the Seer is prepared for it or not. Someone in the world must be prepared with the knowledge the vision will bring, however shocking or cryptic it may be at the time.
